1. WHERE DO I START?
Hiking is a wonderful way to experience the outdoors. It’s an activity that almost anyone can do. This is how to do it, develop a desire to step out and experience the outdoors. Day Hikes / Excursions
For day hikes hiking shoes or trail running shoes are best. Light shoes enable you to maintain a good pace, during a rainy season you might need to use a proper hiking boot but for sunny weather, keep it simple and use a light firm shoe for the trail.
Comfortable hiking pants or gym pants can do during a day hike
A well-fitting and comfortable daypack are essential for carrying the gear you’ll need during the hike. Choose a pack large enough to carry essential gear with convenient storage compartments and easy access to water bottles or a hydration bladder. If you an easy hiker you can just carry a camelback with a hydration bladder but also with space for a few snacks.
3. I’m NOT FIT ENOUGH TO HIKE FOR LONG HOURS, WHERE SHOULD I START?
This is the most asked question. The best way to get in shape for hiking is to get out on the trails. Start small, you don’t want to just jump right to the toughest trail and end up hating hiking. Perhaps, look at doing a local trail that’s relatively flat, one that you could tackle in an hour or so on the weekends. Hiking is a moment of connecting with oneself and if you join a hike and feel completely the body has hit its threshold for trekking, sit down and relax, it’s not a competition. 4. NONE OF MY FRIENDS ARE OUTDOORSY, HOW DO I FIND PEOPLE TO GO HIKING WITH?
If you don’t have any friends or family members you can drag outdoors, worry not, you will realize hikers are easy and fun-loving people. Once you join a hiking group you will end up meeting strangers who end up making great friends. 5. HOW ABOUT WILD ANIMALS THAT OCCUPY FORESTS AND RESERVES?
Wildlife can be a real concern on some hiking trails. Hiking groups are always accompanied by at least two armed guides to ensure hikers’ safety, one who pace sets and one that sweeps while group organizers coordinate to make sure no one is left behind, by ensuring there are enough stops to rest. More than many wildlife animals are elusive and try to avoid trails that are mostly occupied with human activities
