Ngare Ndare Forest Full-Day Adventure

Safari at a Glance

Safari Highlight

Trip Overview🚞

Ngare Ndare (Maasai for "Goats' Water") is a lush, indigenous forest that serves as a vital corridor for elephants moving between Mt. Kenya and the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy.

You’ll start high above the ground, walking among 200-year-old trees on the famous suspended canopy bridge. It’s quiet, breathtaking, and gives you a bird’s-eye view of the wild.

You’ll then track through the forest floor, guided by an armed ranger who knows the language of the woods—from identifying medicinal plants to spotting fresh elephant tracks. The day culminates at the "Azure Pools." Fed by glacial runoff from Mt. Kenya, these natural rock pools are a stunning, crystal-clear turquoise. Whether you take the "polar plunge" or just sit on the rocks with your feet in the water, the peace here is absolute.

Itinerary📋

05:30 AM: Departure from Rosslyn Academy. We start early to beat the Thika Road

traffic and catch the soft morning light as we head towards Nanyuki.

09:30 AM: Arrival & Briefing. A quick check-in at the gate, meeting our armed KFS

ranger (essential for safety as this is an elephant corridor), and a quick stretch.

10:00 AM: The Canopy Walk. We start with the 450-meter-long suspended bridge. It’s

10 meters high, putting you right in the face of the forest canopy. Great for bird watching

and, if we're lucky, spotting elephants below.

11:30 AM: The Hike to the Pools. A moderate 4km (approx. 1-hour) hike through the

indigenous forest. The air here is incredibly crisp.

12:30 PM: Swimming & Relaxation. This is the highlight. The azure pools are famous

for their stunning blue color. Note: The water is glacial (very cold!), but incredibly

refreshing.

02:30 PM: Trek Back & Picnic. A short hike back to the vehicle. We’ll enjoy our packed

lunches here before starting the journey back.

03:30 PM: Departure. Heading back to Nairobi.

07:30 PM: Drop-off. Arrival back at Nairobi pick up point.

What to Bring🎒

1. Footwear: Wear shoes with good grip (trail runners or hiking boots). The path to the

pools can be slippery if there was a light drizzle.- Its currently a dry season

2. Open shoes for swimming and after hike comfort.

3. The "Swimming Kit": Wear your swimsuit under your hiking gear to save time. Bring a

lightweight microfiber towel—it dries faster and takes up less space.

4. Canyoning/Water Shoes: If you have them, bring them! The bottom of the pools has

some rocks; water shoes make getting in and out much easier.

5. Power Bank: Between the canopy walk photos and the blue pools, your battery will drain

fast.

6. Warm Layer: It can be chilly in the morning and during the drive back. A light fleece is

perfect.

Safety Note: 🩹
