How it works: You enter the park before 16:00 and use the remaining light hours to cover the main wildlife circuits. Lions, black rhino, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, and zebra are the main targets. The drive exits the park before the 18:00 gate closure. A full sunset over the Ngong Hills is included.

Best for: Families, first-time visitors, Nairobi residents wanting a quick escape, business travelers with early evening availability.

Departure: 18:30 from Nairobi hotel or CBD pickup point

Return: 21:30 to 22:00

How it works: This operates under a special night drive permit issued by the Kenya Wildlife Service. Two armed KWS rangers accompany every vehicle — this is mandatory for night drives and ensures both guest safety and legal compliance. Powerful spotlights illuminate the terrain as your guide scans the darkness. The park at night is a completely different world.

What you see at night: Lions on active hunts. Leopards moving between cover. Spotted hyena patrolling. Aardvark foraging in open areas. Bat-eared fox. Honey badger. Silverback jackal. Bush baby in the acacia canopy — their eyes catching the spotlight at a distance. Genet cat. Civet. Striped hyena. Cape hare. Porcupine. Aardwolf on the grassland margins. African wild cat. Nairobi residents who have never been. The park is 7km from the CBD and statistically most Nairobi residents have not visited since a school trip. This evening drive fixes that in 4 hours, any day of the week, without disrupting your schedule.

Wild Springs runs the evening game drive every day of the week - Monday through Sunday. There is no minimum group size for private departures. Group joining departures run when 2 or more independent bookings confirm for the same date.

Same-day booking is possible for the standard evening drive if you WhatsApp us before 13:00. Night game drives require 48 hours advance notice for the KWS permit.

Travel Information

Park closing time: Nairobi National Park gates close at 18:00. The standard evening drive exits the park by 17:50 and returns you to your hotel by 18:30 to 19:30 depending on Nairobi traffic.

What to bring: Camera, binoculars, light jacket (the park gets cool quickly after sunset), and charged phone. Type G (British) adapter for hotel charging if you are visiting from outside the UK/Kenya ecosystem.

Traffic note: The drive from Nairobi CBD to Langata Gate takes 20 minutes without traffic. With evening traffic from 17:00 onwards, allow 35 to 45 minutes. Pickup times are set to account for this — your guide manages the timing.

Weather: Nairobi National Park is accessible and enjoyable year-round. The short rains (October to November) and long rains (March to May) can produce brief afternoon showers. Vehicles are enclosed for the weather. The rain actually produces some of the finest wildlife activity — predators move well in overcast conditions.
