Event Details
Kenton Hill
Altitude: Approximately 2,500 meters above sea level.
The Experience: It is often the first major climb in the "Kenton & Nathan" circuit. The trail is known for its steep, "lung-busting" slopes that test endurance right from the start.
Highlights: From the summit, you get breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Longonot, Mount Margaret, and the distant Suswa. It also overlooks the historic railway line and the thick Kijabe mountain forest.
Nathan Hill
Altitude: Reaches up to 2,800 meters above sea level, making it the higher of the two.
The Experience: Located further along the ridge toward the Magina/Soko Mjinga area, this hill was part of the former "White Highlands." The trek to Nathan Hill often involves navigating through local villages and sharp ascents.
Highlights: It is famous for its "Vertical Descent" or ascent (depending on the route) and its proximity to the Old Kijabe ruins—stone remains of early 20th-century colonial settlements hidden in the forest.
Common Hiking Facts:
Difficulty: Rated as Moderate to High/Difficult. It is often used as a training ground for major peaks like Mt. Kenya or Kilimanjaro.
Distance: A combined trek usually covers 19km to 22km, taking about 7 to 8 hours to complete.
Terrain: Very steep and rugged, featuring a mix of forest vegetation, rocky ridges, and historical railway trails.
