Regatta's Samaris Lite Waterproof Mid is a lightweight fabric walking boot with a waterproof, breathable Isotex membrane and a cushioned XLT sole. It is a lower-cost choice for weekend hikes, rainy-season walks and travel, when you want dry feet and some ankle coverage without the weight of a leather boot.

The upper is 70% polyester and 30% polyurethane, according to Regatta, with a Hydropel finish that makes rain bead on the surface and roll off. The real waterproofing sits inside: Regatta describes its Isotex membrane as waterproof, breathable and windproof, and says the boots are fully waterproof against rain and splashes.
A padded neoprene collar softens the fit around the ankle, the tongue is mesh, and a moulded EVA footbed cushions each step. Regatta's XLT sole cushions the heel with EVA and keeps the forefoot stable; Regatta calls it hard-wearing, with added traction. Regatta calls the boot lightweight but does not publish a weight, and there is no insulation.
The Samaris Lite suits Kenya's popular day hikes. On our Ngong Hills guided hike, the grassy ridge turns slippery after rain, and the waterproof membrane and cushioned sole make the long walk more comfortable. It is also a sensible choice for the Mount Kipipiri hike and the Elephant Hill hike in the Aberdares, where paths are often muddy; add gaiters when the moorland is very wet.
On the crater rim of Mount Longonot, the mid cuff keeps out some of the loose volcanic ash, and gaiters keep out more. For multi-day climbs such as Mount Kenya or Kilimanjaro, with a heavy pack on rocky ground, a sturdier leather boot is the better tool, and the cold upper slopes call for very warm socks or an insulated boot.
For a rainy autumn or a mild, wet winter in a city such as London or Amsterdam, this is a practical travel boot: the Isotex membrane is built to keep rain out, and it is light to pack. It has no insulation and is not designed for snow or ice, so for freezing conditions choose an insulated winter boot.
