Gently used · KES 13,500 · Men's EU 49 / UK 13 / US 14. The Merrell Forestbound Mid Waterproof is a leather-and-mesh hiking boot that covers the ankle and uses Merrell's M Select DRY waterproofing, built to keep feet dry. It suits hikers with large feet who want a cushioned, protective boot for wet day hikes and multi-day treks.

Merrell designed the Forestbound Mid for long hikes with a pack: a protective leather upper over a cushioned sole. The upper pairs waterproof, PU-coated leather with mesh, and a die-cut rubber rand and toe cap take the knocks from rocks and roots. Inside there is a breathable mesh lining, and M Select DRY, which Merrell describes as waterproof, moisture-wicking technology, is built to keep feet dry.
Underfoot you get a removable, contoured Kinetic Fit Base insole for flexible support, an EVA midsole for stability and comfort, and a moulded nylon arch shank. The M Select GRIP outsole has 5 mm lugs, and Merrell designed it for slip-resistant footing on wet and dry ground over mixed terrain. Merrell lists the men's weight as 2 lb (912 g). There is no insulation: this is a waterproof hiking boot, not a snow boot.
Kenya's highland trails are often wet, and that is where a waterproof mid boot earns its place. In the Aberdares, on the Seven Ponds trail or the Elephant Hill hike from Njabini, the waterproofing and 5 mm lugs help on boggy moorland and slippery forest paths.
On our 5-day Sirimon to Chogoria climb or one of our Kilimanjaro climbs, the boot handles the wet forest and moorland days well. The summits are colder: Kenya Wildlife Service describes Mount Kenya's summits as glacier-clad, and Tanzania National Parks says Kibo is covered by snow throughout the year and advises proper cold-weather and rain gear. As the boot has no insulation, wear thick wool socks and gaiters on summit night, or bring an insulated boot.
For wet, cold city days and countryside walks in a European or North American winter, the waterproofing is built to keep rain and slush out, and wool socks add the warmth the boot does not have. It is not a snow boot: there is no insulation, and Merrell recommends different, winter-specific soles for icy or snowy surfaces, so choose a proper winter boot for frozen pavements or deep snow.

Yes. Merrell built it with M Select DRY waterproofing and a waterproof, PU-coated leather upper.
Yes for the forest and moorland, where the waterproofing is built to keep feet dry. The boot is not insulated, so on the cold upper mountain wear thick wool socks and gaiters, and choose an insulated boot if snow is expected.
For wet, cold city days with wool socks, yes. They are not insulated snow boots, and the outsole is not one of Merrell's winter soles for ice and snow.
EU 49 / UK 13 / US 14, a large men's size that matches Merrell's men's chart (32 cm).
