Wild Springs Adventures | ๐ Aberdare National Park + Lake Nakuru National Park | ๐ TripAdvisor Award Winner | ๐๏ธ Kenya Tourism Authority Licensed
๐ฟ Two Entirely Different Kenyan Ecosystems. One Seamless Journey. Two Parks, One Road, Four Days of Kenya
Kenya's Central Rift Valley contains two of the most distinct national parks in East Africa, sitting 60 kilometres apart along the same highland road. They share nothing except proximity โ and that proximity is exactly what makes combining them the smartest four-day safari available from Nairobi.
Aberdare National Park is mist, forest, and altitude. Kenya's tallest waterfall. Ancient cedar trees draped in lichen. A wooden lodge on stilts above a floodlit waterhole where elephants come every evening. Bamboo thick enough to shelter a freedom fighter. A mountain range that runs 160 kilometres and contains its own weather systems.
Lake Nakuru National Park is the opposite of all of this โ open savanna, alkaline water, the pink of a million flamingos at the shoreline in full East African sun. One of Kenya's best rhino sanctuaries. Lions spotted in the trees above Flamingo Hill. Rothschild's giraffe โ one of the rarest in the world โ grazing the acacia woodland. The cliff viewpoint at Baboon Cliff giving a full aerial panorama of the lake and its pink borders.
Most tour operators run them as separate trips. Wild Springs connects them on a single itinerary โ entering the Aberdares through Kiandogoro Gate on Day 1, completing the full waterfall circuit (Karuru, Gura, Chania, Magura), overnighting at The Ark or Treetops, and then driving south on Day 3 to Lake Nakuru for a full afternoon and morning game drive before returning to Nairobi on Day 4.
One road. Two ecosystems. Four days. The complete Central Kenya highlands experience.

โ Frequently Asked Questions โ Aberdare & Lake Nakuru Safari Combo
๐ฟ 1. Why combine Aberdare and Lake Nakuru in one safari?
The two parks are only 60 kilometres apart along the same highland road, yet they offer completely opposite ecosystems โ montane forest, waterfalls, and tree lodges in the Aberdares, versus open alkaline savanna, flamingos, rhinos, and tree-climbing lions at Lake Nakuru. Combining them in four days gives you the full spectrum of Kenya's Central Rift Valley in a single efficient itinerary, without backtracking or wasted road time.
๐ฐ 2. What is the difference between The Ark and Treetops Lodge?
Both are iconic Aberdare tree lodges built over floodlit waterholes where wildlife gathers at night. The Ark is larger, more modern, and sits deeper in the forest at a higher altitude, attracting more frequent elephant and buffalo visits. Treetops is older and more historic โ this is where Princess Elizabeth learned she had become Queen in 1952 โ and offers a more intimate experience with fewer rooms. Both are full board and include evening and dawn waterhole viewing. The Ark typically has higher wildlife activity at the waterhole; Treetops has the stronger historical story.
๐ฆฉ 3. How many flamingos will I see at Lake Nakuru?
Flamingo numbers at Lake Nakuru fluctuate significantly depending on alkalinity levels and food availability in the lake. In peak periods, hundreds of thousands of lesser and greater flamingos form a pink border around the shoreline โ one of the most photographed sights in Africa. In quieter periods, tens of thousands are still present. Our guides monitor lake conditions before your departure and will tell you honestly what to expect. The rhinos, lions, Rothschild's giraffes, and other wildlife are present regardless of flamingo numbers.
๐ฆ 4. Is Lake Nakuru good for rhino sightings?
Yes โ Lake Nakuru is one of Kenya's most reliable rhino sanctuaries. The park protects over 80 white rhinos and a population of critically endangered black rhinos. Our guide knows the sanctuary tracks where rhinos are most consistently seen. White rhino sightings are very reliable; black rhino sightings require patience and local knowledge but are genuinely possible.
๐ 5. Are the Aberdare waterfalls accessible year-round?
The waterfalls are accessible year-round. They are at their most dramatic during and immediately after the rainy seasons (April to May and October to November) when water volumes are highest. During the dry season (January to March and June to September), the falls are still impressive, and the trails are drier and easier to walk. An armed KWS ranger accompanies all waterfall walks โ this is mandatory for security in the forest and is included in the package price.
๐ 6. How far is the Aberdare from Nairobi, and how long is the drive?
Kiandogoro Gate, our entry point into the Aberdares, is approximately 160 km north of Nairobi โ about a 2.5 to 3-hour drive via Thika and Karatina. We depart Nairobi at 7:00 AM and enter the park by 10:00 AM, giving a full day for the waterfall circuit and afternoon game drive before lodge check-in.
๐ 7. What is the best time of year for this Aberdare and Nakuru safari combo?
The best periods are January to March and June to August. These dry season windows offer the clearest mountain views in the Aberdares, drier waterfall trails, and the most reliable Lake Nakuru flamingo and wildlife activity. The safari runs year-round โ the Aberdare forest is actually beautiful in the green seasons with dramatic mist and higher waterfall volumes โ but road conditions and trail access are easier during the dry periods.
๐ฐ 8. What payment methods do you accept for this safari?
We accept M-Pesa (Paybill 4065921, Account: Nakuru Combo), international bank transfer, PayPal, and all major credit and debit cards. A deposit of 30% per person confirms your booking. The balance is due 14 days before your departure date. Contact us via WhatsApp at +254 729 257 317 for instant booking confirmation.
